Meet Dawn Oldenbuttel – Controller
Antique Collector, Wife, And Mom To Her Fur Babies, Keep On Reading To Learn More About Our Controller, Dawn Oldenbuttel.
Dawn Oldenbuttel joined the RAM team in May of 2017 after seeing a vision poster on LinkedIn that sparked her desire to be challenged. She felt confident because a lot of the requirements included things she had already achieved in her career, things she wanted to do and most importantly, working for RAM looked like an opportunity for growth and to really solidify what she was trying to do in her career.
Let’s take it back a little. What was Dawn up to before joining our team?
Dawn worked as a controller for one of Carolina’s largest independently owned insurance brokerage firms for 12 years. This was a major learning experience for her because she had the opportunity to really grow with a company – at the time she started, there were only 15 employees and when she left, there were almost 100 employees.
After highschool, she took the traditional route and enrolled in a local community college for 2 years, then she transferred to University of North Carolina where she stayed for a year. During her time at college, Dawn decided to take up a job offer to be a full time office manager. Some time later, her desire for upward mobility made her realize how limiting and difficult it is to grow without a degree, so she went back to school. Her new goal was to graduate before she turned 37. This goal was achieved with a 4.0 GPA and a degree in Liberal Arts from Wingate University.
Dawn’s Role At RAM Pavement
Being the controller means you’re in charge of the numbers, it’s what comes with the territory. That being said, a bulk of her time is spent on payroll. One of the greatest things about working at RAM Pavement is the dedication to nourishing and encouraging our employees to stay true to their unique abilities. This means that Dawn isn’t tied down to only handling the numbers. In addition to leading the office team, she also handles some HR responsibilities (SHRM certified) and is a part of the team who handles advertising for the company.
Fun Fact:
One of Dawn’s first jobs was working for an advertisement company.
As a leader, she enjoys bringing her team together to ensure everyone knows what they need to do and more importantly, how to get it done right. She is clear, professional, concise and friendly. She also views each interaction as an opportunity to create a pleasant experience for her team.
“My philosophy is that it’s okay to make mistakes. My only hope is that we learn from it, move forward and become better because of it” – Dawn
Antique Collector, Wife, And Mom To Her Fur Babies
When Dawn is away from work, she is often perusing the shelves of antique shops looking for items to add to her collection. She has recently installed some antique lighting fixtures she found in her home and currently has her eyes on an antique cabinet.
Dawn has been married to her husband, Porter for 29 years and together they have 3 furbabies- Tucker and Harvey, who are both American Eskimos, and Scarlet a 5lb teacup yorkie.
With everything that has happened this year, Dawn has made it her goal to take better care of her health. She intends to get her COVID-19 weight under control (let’s be honest, we’ve all put on a few extra lbs these past few months), getting more rest and to focus on giving herself more. Taking better care of herself, means being able to take better care of those around her.
At RAM Pavement, we give everyone an opportunity to use their unique abilities and we’re thankful to have Dawn as such an integral part of our great team. Our people and process make the difference for our clients and we’re extremely proud to be The Carolinas #1 choice for Paved Asset Management!
