Honoring The Service Of Randy Blythe This Independence Day

In the midst of the active military draft during the Vietnam War, 18-year-old Randy Blythe enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps with three friends. They left Cincinnati, Ohio for boot camp in San Diego, California, where they were trained in jungle warfare.

After boot camp, Randy was stationed at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton in Oceanside, California. There, he was trained on weapons systems. “Our company did field tests for the brass to see what these new weapons could do. We tested the M16 automatic rifle and the M79, a shoulder-mounted grenade launcher,” Randy explained. During the years he served there, the Vietnam War ended.

The experiences he had while serving our country provided Randy with lessons that have lasted a lifetime.

“The Marine Corps teaches discipline. It teaches you all about life - how to survive anywhere, how to get along, how to be apart. You meet people from all different walks of life. You learn how to build a good work ethic, obey the rules and do what you’re asked to do. You respect people and they respect you.” - Randy Blythe, Truck Driver, RAM Pavement

After his service, Randy trained as an auto mechanic but he chose another path. “For the past 40 years, I’ve been in construction, driving all kinds of heavy equipment. I spent 15 years in management and then retired. A year ago, I was talking to Tom Polito at RAM and ended up getting back into a truck. I’m glad I did.”

“We are proud to have someone with your outstanding character and experience on the RAM Pavement team, Randy. We value the contributions that you and other veterans make to our company every day. This Independence Day, we are honored to celebrate your commitment and service to our country and our freedom. Thank you.” - Rob Miller, President, RAM Pavement
